Why Jackson Hole was the perfect Base for Yellowstone & Grand Teton

There are so many decisions that go into planning a trip to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park, but one of the biggest ones is where to stay. After going on this trip ourselves, I can confidently say that choosing Jackson Hole as our home base made it a perfect experience.

From the moment we arrived, it just felt like the kind of place you want to come back to after a full day of exploring- relaxed, scenic, and close to everything without feeling overly busy. It gave us the perfect balance between adventure and downtime, which is exactly what you want on a trip like this.

One of the biggest advantages of staying in Jackson Hole was how easy it made getting to both parks. Grand Teton National Park was just a short drive away, which made early mornings and sunset views feel effortless instead of rushed. Also when it came to heading up to Yellowstone National Park, the drive itself became part of the experience- scenic, peaceful, and something we actually looked forward to.

We spent our days mixing in some of the best parts of both parks-hiking, exploring, and just taking in the landscapes-but what made it even better was knowing we could come back to a place that felt like home and was a central location without constantly having to to pack up and move around.

And honestly, it wasn’t just about the parks. Jackson itself ended up being one of our favorite parts of the trip. Between walking around downtown, finding great spots to eat, and soaking in that classic western charm, it added a whole different layer to the experience. It didn’t feel like we were just visiting National Parks- it felt like a full destination.

We also loved being able to experience things beyond the typical park stops, like getting out into Grand Teton National Park on horseback and heading up the mountain at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort for incredible views (and yes, the waffles were worth it). Those are the kind of moments that made the trip feel a little more unique and a lot more memorable.

Looking back, having a home base in Jackson made everything feel easier, more flexible, and honestly more enjoyable. Instead of feeling like we were constantly on the move, we were able to slow down and really take it in.
